The Founder's Vision

25 Years in the Making

"Children do not need to be taught to love learning. We simply need to stop teaching them not to."

Narjis Raza is an education leader with over 25 years of international experience dedicated to nurturing young minds through growth, positivity, and the acceptance of oneself. Frustrated by anxiety-inducing, rote-based approaches, she founded Coral in 2021 to give Pakistan a genuinely world-class alternative.

The founder

Narjis Raza

Twenty-five years in early years education, across Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Narjis founded Coral in 2021, frustrated by anxiety-inducing, rote-based schooling and determined to give Pakistan a genuinely world-class alternative.

Her philosophy is raising calmer, more regulated, capable children — built on predictable routines, autonomy support and the power of observation. She believes calm grows through competence: that by letting children struggle safely and solve problems themselves, adults help them build real confidence.

Career

Founder, Coral Preschool & Activity Centre (2021–present) — leading a Finnish-model facility in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.
Co-founder, Coral Islamabad (2023–2025) — set up and developed the F-11 branch.
ECE Trainer & Member, Voice of Learners, Dubai — teacher development and early-years practice.

How we handle behaviour

Connect before you correct

Children are never controlled through fear, force, shouting or intimidation. That is not a slogan — it is a written policy every teacher at Coral signs.

Children aged two to six are still learning self-regulation, communication, impulse control and social skills. Their behaviour is usually communication. Our job is to respond in a way that teaches rather than frightens.

So the adult’s role at Coral is to guide, co-regulate, redirect and teach — never to intimidate or overpower. Our Positive & Respectful Child Handling SOP sets out exactly what that means across arrivals, circle time, meals, outdoor play, sensory play and the moments when a child is upset.

Force a child to eat, or use food as a reward or punishment
Force a child to sit still or to join in
Pull, drag, yank or grip a child tightly
Use play or outdoor time as a punishment
Tell a child to stop crying, or say “big children don’t cry”
Ignore a child who is calling for us

Move closer and speak at the child’s level
Acknowledge the feeling before addressing the behaviour
Offer two real choices instead of a demand
Give warning before a transition, and time to process it
Stay calm — the adult’s nervous system helps regulate the child’s
Reconnect first, and teach afterwards
Ask whether our expectation is developmentally reasonable
Record concerns factually and report them properly

How our practice has changed

We watched what happened, and changed our minds

Coral has not always taught the way it teaches now. These are two things we deliberately stopped doing, and what replaced them.

Uninterrupted play

No more adult-dominated playtime. Children are allowed to immerse themselves fully.

Before

We used to interrupt play with teacher support — stepping in to solve problems and keep children patient and focused. It looked helpful. What it actually produced was less self-regulation, less creativity and less independence.

Now

We let play run. Children explore ideas through trial and mistake, which is how they learn to collaborate and to resolve disagreements between themselves rather than waiting for an adult to arbitrate.

Empowering autonomy

Adults step in only when necessary, so children can build self-regulation and learn from their own mistakes.

Before

Children were given less autonomy. The cost showed up as weaker emotional resilience, weaker decision-making, and less confidence in handling anything new.

Now

Children get real opportunities to make decisions, solve problems and manage parts of the day themselves, in an environment where it is safe to experiment and to get it wrong.

We review our practice openly with the team. If something is not working for children, we would rather change it than defend it.
